Introduction to School Gardening—Online Continuing Education
About this Class
A school garden provides excellent opportunities for cross-curricular learning while fostering awareness of the environment, wildlife, nutrition, life skills, and cognitive development.
Available for K-12 teachers in all content areas, Master Gardeners, and other school garden volunteers.
This online course is designed to introduce teachers to the benefits of a school garden program; help them identify ways to build support for developing a garden; create a vision, theme, and design; and distinguish the best curriculum for incorporation into their classroom. Participants will gain practical knowledge for laying the groundwork of a successful program. Course participants will receive valuable feedback from their instructor and other teachers while learning new avenues for student instruction.
During this six-week course, participants can expect to spend an average of two hours each week completing assignments and communicating with the instructor and other participants. The course design allows participants to work at times convenient for them, but it is suggested they stay on pace with their peers. Two live sessions will be incorporated into Introduction to School Gardening at the end of the 3rd and 5th week. Each session will run for approximately one hour. These sessions are not mandatory, but encouraged.
Cancellation Policy: Registration fees less 15% processing charge will be refunded if cancellation is received in writing at least one week before the course. No refunds will be issued within one week of the course start date.
Online registration information will be sent via email.
